Apple TV Keeps Asking You to Sign In? Here’s the Fix

Apple ID & Security Updated 2026-07-12

A repeating sign-in prompt on Apple TV is almost always caused by a wrong date/time, an out-of-date app, or a network that blocks Apple’s servers. Work through these in order.

Fixes for the Apple TV sign-in loop

  1. Set date & time automatically: Settings › General › Date and Time. A wrong clock breaks the secure sign-in token.
  2. Update tvOS / the TV’s software: old builds have known sign-in bugs.
  3. Sign out and back in: in the Apple TV app, sign out fully, restart the device, then sign in again at link.apple.com when prompted.
  4. Turn off any VPN on the device or router — VPNs frequently trip Apple’s security checks.
  5. Check two-factor: keep a trusted phone nearby to approve the login. See two-factor code not arriving if the code never shows.
  6. Remove and re-add the device from your Apple ID device list, then set it up fresh.

If only one app keeps logging out (not the whole TV), delete and reinstall that app — its stored login may be corrupt.

Frequently asked questions

Most often a wrong date/time, an outdated software version, or a VPN/network blocking Apple’s sign-in servers.

Try the steps above first. A full reset is a last resort — you’ll need to re-add every app and account afterward.
