Troubleshooting
Fix Common Apple TV+ Activation Problems
Most activation issues come down to a handful of causes: an expired code, a network mismatch, or an Apple ID that needs verifying. Work through the fixes below in order — they're listed from the most common cause to the least.
Activation code not working
"Your code is incorrect or has expired"
Activation codes are short-lived and single-use. If yours fails:
- Make sure you typed the code exactly as shown — codes are case-sensitive and never contain spaces.
- Codes usually expire after a few minutes. Go back to the app on your TV and request a fresh code, then enter it right away.
- Confirm both devices show the same date and time; a wrong clock can invalidate a code.
Fix: generate a new code and enter it within 60 seconds.
Apple ID sign-in fails
Can't sign in with your Apple ID
- Double-check your Apple ID email and password on a device where you're already signed in.
- If you forgot your password, reset it from Settings › your name › Sign-In & Security or at iforgot.apple.com.
- If two-factor authentication is on, approve the prompt and enter the 6-digit code from your trusted device.
Fix: reset the password, then sign in and approve the 2FA prompt.

Device not appearing
Your device doesn't show up when linking
- Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network (2.4GHz vs 5GHz bands can behave like separate networks).
- Restart the streaming device and your router, then try again.
- Update the device's software — an outdated system app often can't complete activation.
Fix: same network + restart + update, then retry.
AirPlay icon missing
You can't find the AirPlay button
- Confirm your TV or speaker is AirPlay 2 compatible (check the box or manufacturer's site).
- On a Mac, enable System Settings › Displays › "Show mirroring options in the menu bar."
- Restart both devices — AirPlay often reappears after a reboot of the receiver.
Fix: verify AirPlay 2 support, then restart the receiving device.
Still stuck? Try this 5-step reset
If a specific fix above didn't help, this general sequence resolves the majority of remaining cases:
- Reboot everything — the streaming device, your router, and the phone or computer you're entering the code on.
- Check Apple's system status at apple.com/support/systemstatus — if Apple TV+ shows an outage, wait and retry later.
- Update software on every device involved.
- Sign out and back in to your Apple ID on the app, then request a brand-new activation code.
- Try a different network (for example a phone hotspot) to rule out router or firewall blocking.
