Cannot Add a HomeKit Accessory? Here Is the Fix

Apple Devices & AirPlay Updated 2026-06-04

When the Home app will not add an accessory, it usually cannot reach the device on the network or the setup code will not scan. These fixes resolve it.

Fix adding a HomeKit accessory

  1. Power-cycle the accessory and make sure it is in pairing mode.
  2. Stay close to the accessory and your router during setup.
  3. Enter the setup code manually if the camera will not scan the HomeKit code.
  4. Check the band: many accessories need 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, so confirm your phone can reach that band.
  5. Reset the accessory to factory settings if it was previously paired elsewhere, then try again.

A working home hub (your Apple TV or HomePod) makes pairing and remote control far more reliable.
