Apple ID Locked or Disabled? How to Unlock It

Apple ID & Security Updated 2026-06-04

Apple may lock an account after too many failed sign-in attempts or unusual activity. Unlocking it is a matter of verifying that you are the owner.

Unlock your Apple ID

  1. Go to iforgot.apple.com from any browser.
  2. Enter your Apple ID and follow the prompts to verify your identity.
  3. Use your device passcode or trusted phone number to confirm it is you.
  4. Reset your password when prompted – this also unlocks the account.
  5. Sign in again on your devices with the new password.

Repeated wrong passwords trigger locks. If someone in your household is entering an old password on a shared device, update it there too.
