Apple TV+ Black Screen or No Picture? Fixes
A black screen with or without sound is usually an HDMI handshake or a resolution mismatch. Work through these to restore the picture.
Fix a black screen
- Reseat the HDMI cable at both ends, or try a different HDMI port.
- Swap the HDMI cable, especially for 4K and HDR where a faulty cable fails silently.
- Restart the Apple TV or device and the TV.
- Reset the resolution: on Apple TV hold Back and Volume Up to cycle display settings, or set resolution manually.
- Disable Match Content temporarily if HDR causes a blank screen on your TV.
For 4K HDR, use a certified high-speed HDMI cable – many black-screen issues are simply an older cable that cannot carry the signal.
