Apple TV Remote Not Working or Not Pairing?

Apple Devices & AirPlay Updated 2026-06-04

A dead or unresponsive Siri Remote is usually a charge or pairing issue. Try these steps in order to bring it back.

Fix the Apple TV remote

  1. Charge it. Plug the remote into a charger for 30 minutes – a flat battery is the most common cause.
  2. Re-pair it. Hold it close to the Apple TV and press and hold the Back (or Menu) and Volume Up buttons together for about five seconds.
  3. Restart the Apple TV by unplugging it for 10 seconds.
  4. Remove Bluetooth interference by moving other wireless devices away.
  5. Use the Apple TV Remote in the iPhone Control Center as a temporary backup.

For older aluminium remotes, point directly at the Apple TV and replace the battery if charging does not help.
